Weekly Group Meditation*
Sunday mornings
Marblehead, MA

Sun 9-10:30am (last Sun of month:  9-12pm)
201 Humphrey St, Marblehead MA
(See photo:  it's the studio below the large house on the hill)

Meditating in a group is an uplifting experience and a great way to deepen and inspire meditations on your own.  Join us for an opening prayer, some chanting, the affirmation for the week (from Affirmation for Self-Healing, by Swami Kriyananda), then about a 45 minute meditation, and then a video from the Ananda Sunday Service (from Ananda Village/Expanding Light Retreat in Nevada City, CA) that includes a reading from the Bible and Bhagavad-Gita.  If you are new to meditation, we'll guide your meditation to get you started.

*We typically break for the summer months of June, July & Aug.  During winter, we may cancel during snowstorms.  Check at the top of this column for the lastest info.

Monthly Long Meditation
9am-Noon, Last Sun of Month
Marblehead, MA

201 Humphrey St, Marblehead MA
(See photo:  it's the studio below the large house on the hill)

Please feel free to join us for all or part of the time, as we won't be meditating straight through!  We'll start with guided Energization Exercises, then Maha Mudra/yoga postures, an opening prayer, some chanting, the affirmation for the week (from Affirmation for Self-Healing, by Swami Kriyananda), then the podcast talk from the Ananda Sunday Service (from Ananda Village/Expanding Light Retreat in Nevada City, CA) that includes a reading from the Bible and Bhagavad-Gita, then a 30 minute meditation.  After that we'll alternate with a couple chanting breaks and periods of meditation for about 20-30 minutes each.

Don't worry if you've never meditated that long, as the group energy, all the preparations, and our open hearts will keep us "awake and ready" for the deepest meditations you may ever experience.

Yoga and Meditation

on Boston's North Shore

Ananda Boston offers group meditations, meditation classes, meditative hatha yoga classes, chanting/kirtans, periodic retreats, and other special classes and events on Boston's North Shore, in the towns of Marblehead, Salem, Lynn, and surrounding towns.

What is Ananda?

It's a global movement based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda and founded in 1968 by Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters), a direct disciple of Yogananda and widely recognized as one of the leading spiritual teachers in the world today.

Ananda offers support in your quest for spiritual growth, as well as instruction in ancient and effective techniques that allow you to experience joy, love, and inner peace in your life.

Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, was the first great Indian master of Yoga to live in the West. One of his first homes was in Boston in 1920.  Yogananda's teachings embrace the universal truths that underlie all religions.

People from all faiths and backgrounds are welcomed at Ananda.  We invite you to join us at our yoga retreats, meditation groups, and events to experience the joy of your own being.

Why Meditate?

"Even a little practice of meditation will free one from dire fears and colossal sufferings." — Bhagavad Gita (2:40)  And as the founder of Ananda, Swami Kriyananda has said, "the peace of your soul awaits you at the center of your own being," and it is meditation—more than anything else—that will help you discover, and live in, this peace.

What is Yoga?

The classic definition of yoga is from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras:  “Yoga is the neutralization of the voticies of feeling” (as translated by Yogananda).  Or in Sanskrit:  “Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha."  Easy for him to say!  But not quite so easy to do....or so we think....regular meditation and an open heart can change that!

These topics and many others are covered with humor, stories, and insight in many of the Sunday talks from Ananda Village in CA.  Sunday talks can be received via iTunes on your computer, even if you don't have or want an iPod!  Highly recommended!  Also, talks and inspiration are listed on our on-line inspiration page.  In joy!
