Register online and if you have any problems registering, email or call 781-640-1132. Experience the power of music to relax the mind and uplift your spirit! Chanting can be thought of as affirmations set to music, and brings about a meditative state through the repetition of simple melodies and the power to open your heart. Yogananda said "chanting is half the battle," because it easily brings you to a state of inner peace, even for the beginner. The songs for chanting are in unison, easy to follow, and most are in English, with a few in Sanskrit. You don't need to be a good singer--just a willingness to experience the powerful vibrations of this music! There will be a couple brief, guided meditations during the chanting. Led by Tracy Anderson on the harmonium, who had to initially "warm up" to chanting, but since then has experienced the bliss of chanting for many years! Class length 1.5 hours. Meets in Multipurpose Room. MEDITATION I -- Begin or Renew Your Practice Marblehead, MA Wed 1/20, 7-830pm Sat, 1/30, 9-1030am Wed, 2/10, 7-830pm Sat, 2/27, 9-10:30am Lynch van Otterloo YMCA, Marblehead, MA $15 Y Members, $22 Others (cost for each class) Register online and if you have any problems registering, email or call 781-640-1132. First we will review the fundamentals of meditation practice: why do it? where? when? how do you prepare? what is the technique? how long? Then we will have two guided meditation practices within the class, with time for Q&A discussion between. A great way to begin a practice of meditation, or renew your practice, as all you need to do is take the next step for you to experience inner peace and joy within, unconditioned by outward circumstances, using methods taught by Paramhansa Yogananda. Join us for all 4 classes, or when you can! Led by Tracy Anderson, a meditator since 1990, and certified in Ananda Yoga & Meditation, as well as being a massage therapist. Class length 1.5 hours. Meets in Conference Room 2 (2nd floor).

Ananda Boston Yoga and Meditation on Boston's North Shore Ananda Boston offers group meditations, meditation classes, meditative hatha yoga classes, chanting/kirtans, periodic retreats, and other special classes and events on Boston's North Shore, in the towns of Marblehead, Salem, Lynn, and surrounding towns. What is Ananda? It's a global movement based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda and founded in 1968 by Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters), a direct disciple of Yogananda and widely recognized as one of the leading spiritual teachers in the world today. Ananda offers support in your quest for spiritual growth, as well as instruction in ancient and effective techniques that allow you to experience joy, love, and inner peace in your life. Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, was the first great Indian master of Yoga to live in the West. One of his first homes was in Boston in 1920. Yogananda's teachings embrace the univeral truths that underlie all religions. People from all faiths and backgrounds are welcomed at Ananda. We invite you to join us at our yoga retreats, meditation groups, and events to experience the joy of your own being.
Ananda Boston North Shore Leadership We express our gratitude to Kaye Gordon, our founding center leader, who for over 20 years was instrumental in starting and sustaining our North Shore meditation group! She has moved to Florida, but will always be an significant and honorary member of the group! Tracy Anderson currently leads the center's activities, and can be reached at 781-640-1132 or by email. She originally found Ananda in Sacramento, CA in 1990 and began taking hatha yoga and meditation classes. Soon after moving from Sacramento to Santa Barbara, CA, she thought she'd just find another similar yoga class, but soon discovered how unique Ananda Yoga was and began working toward her certification to share Yogananda's yoga and meditation techniques with others. Tracy is nationally Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, certified in Ananda Yoga & Meditation at the 500 hour level from Ananda in Nevada City, CA, Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and an MA Licensed Massage Therapist. She has a private practice in Marblehead for therapeutic massage therapy, private meditation and yoga coaching, and offers classes/workshops in the community. She looks forward to sharing these timeless, universal yogic techniques and ever-new joy with you! Nearby Ananda Centers/Retreats in New England We also work with the nearby Ananda Maine-New Hamphire Center, as well as the Ananda Rhode Island Center in Kingsford, RI. Check out their websites for upcoming events as well! Retreats currently take place on the East Coast in MA, CT and VA. See ongoing events, classes, and retreats on this page. Joy to you!
Kaye Gordon (L) and Tracy Anderson (R) | | Paramhansa Yogananda Why Meditate? "Even a little practice of meditation will free one from dire fears and colossal sufferings." — Bhagavad Gita (2:40) And as the founder of Ananda, Swami Kriyananda has said, "the peace of your soul awaits you at the center of your own being," and it is meditation—more than anything else—that will help you discover, and live in, this peace. What is Yoga? The classic definition of yoga is from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras: “Yoga is the neutralization of the voticies of feeling” (as translated by Yogananda). Or in Sanskrit: “Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha." Easy for him to say! But not quite so easy to do....or so we think....regular meditation and an open heart can change that!
